National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Anglican Council to host gathering

In spite of the devastating floods that wrecked homes, businesses and farmland along the east coast of Australia during December and January, the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Council (NATSIAC) is determined to host the 12th gathering of the Anglican Indigenous Network in May this year. Members of the Network will be welcomed to the Salvation Army Collaroy Centre on the coast north of Sydney, New South Wales.

New Executive Director for the Indigenous Theological Training Institute

On 1 March 2011 Martha Allen joined the Indigenous Theological Training Institute (ITTI)  as Executive Director. Martha is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe (Lakota) in South Dakota and was raised an Episcopalian in Native churches throughout the US (her father was an Episcopal priest).

Indigenous Anglican leaders in northern Manitoba commit to developing an area mission

Indigenous Anglican leaders in northern Manitoba have committed to developing an area mission that would include sections from the dioceses of Brandon and Keewatin. At a Feb. 12 meeting in Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Man., representatives from 25 Anglican churches agreed that by Dec. 31, 2011, they would raise more than $34,000, establish a regional sacred circle gathering, and elect a bishop.

Anglican leaders to support Indigenous land rights at rally

On Aug. 6 National Indigenous Anglican Bishop Mark MacDonald and Archbishop Terry Finlay, the Primate's special envoy on residential schools, will attend a rally to support the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) in their challenge of Ontario's Bill 191: the Far North Act.
